Summer Vacation Plans

May 21st, 2012 · 2 Comments

We are planning to go to Sydney and Gold Coast for the summer vacation in late June / early July. Any suggestions for things to do? I will of course to the web scanning, checking TripAdvisor, reading LonelyPlanet, and so on. But it always helps to ask for unique individual experiences that people would have had in their travels.

I had been to Sydney many years ago to attend a conference on ICT for Development. But I didn’t do much of sightseeing.

Our total vacation time will be about 8-9 days, split between Sydney and Gold Coast.

Talk to Indians there and find out the REAL reasons for the Indo-Aussie fights which erupted there a short while ago— and let us know the outcome.

Firstly, good choice of destination! Here are some suggestions based on personal experience of travelling with kids two years back:
In Gold Coast, Abhishek will love Movieworld (dont miss the parade there) and Dreamworld. There are more theme parks but two should be enough. There are small plane rides available which give you a beautiful view of the city. Most five star hotels offer lovely apartments which are fully equipped – you can even cook your food if you feel like. Stay near Surfer’s Paradise.
In sydney, besides the regular hotspots, there’s a hop-on-hop-off city tour by bus – it is a fun a relaxed way to see the beautiful city. If possible, stay near Darling Harbour or The Rocks area.
If possible, extend your trip by a couple of days and visit Cairns as well – I would rate it higher than Goldcoast. You can have some very unique experiences there.
Wherever possible, rent out cars and enjoy drives – they have RH drive so very convenient for Indians.
    Enjoy your trip!
