Letter to a 5-year-old – Part 5

The person who continues to remain at the centre of your life is your Mom. She is your Precious, and you hers. Looking at you both, I do feel envious at times! One of the things your Mom has instilled in you is a deep faith for Jainism. She is teaching you the scriptures, and you are a very diligent student indeed.

The only time you and your Mom are at cross-purposes is when you have to do that little bit of Study. You want nothing to do with anything it. When excuses fail, you will sit with her and frustrate her until she lets you free. Your Mom is also now becoming more creative at getting some things out of you! This is going to be a classic battle worth watching in the year to come. I think I am going to stay out of it.

So, that’s been the gist of the past year. You’ve grown – physically and otherwise. As parents, one decision we made long ago was to let you grow up without putting the pressure that we went through around academics as we were growing up. All-round development, especially the ability to learn to learn, is most important. And there, with your constant questioning, you are doing just fine.

You will still remain our little baby we held in our hands for the first time on April 19, 2005. But at the same time, there is now a growing feeling and recognition that you are an individual in your own right. As you enter your sixth year, your Mom and I wish you a Very Happy Birthday.
